Hatchet 3 is the Hatchet's horror film from 2013. It follows the ongoing adventures of Victor Crowley's adventures in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, as in addition to his brutal murderous rampage. Kane Hodder portrays Victor Crowley while Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanbilt plays Misty.
The film's main strength lies in its use of practical special effects. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of makeup effects that are practical as well as sets. This is a departure from many horror movies today that rely heavily upon CG effects. It also features several truly terrifying moments.
Kane Hodder is a standout in the ensemble, and he's an intimidating villain. It feels like a slasher film from the 1980s and the dialogue is somewhat funny and snarky. There are also certain moments of genuine comedy throughout that provide comedic contrast against all of the gut-wrenching action on screen.
Due to the budget being $1 million, most locations were reused from earlier movies. The house on the lake that was used twice in the film was a prime instance. A lot of the film appears to be a re-use from other films in the franchise. The Hatchet and Hatchet 2 movie Hatchet 3 films may feel like the film is familiar.
In the end, Hatchet 3 was very enjoyable. I found it to be remarkably similar to other entries in this series. However, Hatchet 3 provided lots of thrilling thrills and hilarious performances from its actors.
